Handbag.com was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between the Daily Telegraph and retailer Boots. It is one of the UK’s biggest online women’s websites and is understood to be set for a major expansion into the US, backed by the resources of NatMags’ parent, the giant US Hearst Corporation.
After Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay acquired the Telegraph Group in July 2004, their company Press Holdings bought out Boots’ stake in handbag.com in March 2005.
“We are incredibly excited and optimistic about the opportunities that NatMags will now offer the business,” said Ms Cruickshank, managing director of handbag.com
