Earth Week is a time to honour, raise awareness and demonstrate our collective support for environmental protections and care of our planet. To highlight this occasion, we organised and engaged in various events throughout Europe and the US (pictured below), ranging from wildlife preservation and conservation of unique plant species to youth projects and educational seminars on animal welfare.
These are just some examples of our deep and ongoing commitment to build a better and more sustainable future, as evidenced by our EcoVadis Gold Medal recognition. Sustainability and corporate responsibility are at the heart of our business. We believe that it is critical that our actions exemplify our beliefs, and we give back to our global communities through donations and contributions to charitable non-profit organisations. The New York team took to the forest to support The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance, which focuses on an underserved natural area of the Bronx park - the Forever Wild Preserve, known for its deciduous forest and freshwater wetlands, where they restored pathways that had eroded, removed non-indigenous plant species and invasive vines, and picked up trash. The group remained in high spirits despite a rainy start and muddy conditions.
The London team dedicated their time to the Marble Hill Playcentre, a community-based charity and voluntary organisation delivering play, development and learning opportunities for local children, youth and families in a safe environment to explore and be active. The council-funded facility is working hard to keep costs low by actively fundraising and seeking donations. Our staff painted, relayed wood chippings and tidied the garden to maintain and restore the grounds, in an effort to protect and preserve the beautiful surroundings of Marble Hill Park, Twickenham.
The San Francisco team worked with the Mount Sutro Native Plant Nursery, which propagates locally sourced California native plant species for conservation. The group worked to rid the largest meadow on Mount Sutro of invasive wheat weeds that threaten the habitat of California's native plants, and got some good sunshine while doing it (80°F/26°C).
The Madrid team invited two speakers: Primatologist Paloma Corbi, who works at FOUR PAWS, an organisation which sponsors an orangutan recovery and reintroduction centre in Indonesia, and Primatologist and Veterinarian Rebeca Atencia, Executive Director of the Jane Goodall Institute Congo, which mobilize action on biodiversity loss, climate change and environmental inequity. To round off the event, staff enjoyed beer from Ocean Beer, who donate 100% of their profits to the Ocean Born Foundation, and organic sweet/savoury snacks and drinks based on palm oil free and natural ferments.
The Manchester team spent a day at the Seashell Trust, a national learning disability and autism charity that supports profoundly disabled children and young people with additional communication needs, where they took part in outdoor activities.
